If you have never seen a Buick Tornado in race livery push a Harley Davidson powered Toyota Prius up a hill in the middle of an endurance race then you probably haven't made enough bad decisions lately.

indeed and I'm disappointed at the lack of media coverage it and chump car gets. if there were live stream and commentary it would be even more of a hoot.

Oldsmobile Toronado. For the love of God, this is an automotive site! Right?

Whatever it was it was 'Mercian, had a v8, front wheel drive, and pushed the heck out of a v twin Prius up turn two. I was too busy laughing to remember which branch of GM pinched off that loaf of all American iron.

455 cubic inch V-8. Front wheel drive. Weight of a battleship, styling of a jet fighter. I'm not a GM guy, but I always liked the 1st generation Toronados.

Were you now? I have so many questions! Did the car end up getting back on track? What were your fastest times around Sonoma? Was that hill up turn 2 literally the hardest thing on the car? It looked like it. I'm so curious!

The turn 2 hill was definitely the hardest on the car. In 1st gear with no momentum, the car cannot climb the hill going into turn 2. We knew this and were warned that if we saw a yellow going out of turn 1 to ditch the car off the track for safety purposes.
I saw the yellow and figured it would be fine since the cars were moving briskly enough, however was proven wrong when they basically came to a halt before the apex. I tried to get the car off the track and sat there until my team-mate and captain Spank came through the turn in the Toronado. He wanted to push me all the way around the track and back in, but I thought he was trying to give me a push start since we were also having problems with the starter.
Unfortunately, somewhere in that whole process I ended up doing severe damage to the bottom end of the engine. I think the theory is that we spun a crank roller bearing in the engine and the extra rod travel pushed a piston through one of the plugs. I'm not familiar with Harley engines, but that was the version that was explained to me. More here: http://forums.24hoursoflemons.com/viewtopic.php?…
The car's fastest time was in the 2:50's, I believe, and it never made it back onto track after I blew up the engine.

That is awesome! Sorry about the blown motor but really what a story! I was spotting for southworst on that hill and I saw it all. it was legit the best thing I saw all weekend. you guys need a spotter or two if you are going to try your hand at H-D/Prius racing like that. It helps to know whats ahead before you can see it.
